Default Thinking Outside the Block today...embroidered blocks!

As everyone knows, I'm just a beginner quilter, and everyday I see new things that I just LOVE about quilting. Problem is, at the moment, I have little interest in doing certain things, or am limited in my capabilities (no machines, no time to learn the skill right now...) for such things as applique or embroidery to add to my quilts. BUT I LOVE THE LOOK!

Today, however, I had a light bulb moment, and realized that as I was browsing around over at etsy, there are sellers who SELL LOVELY EMBROIDERED QUILTING SQUARES! How cool is THAT?! I'm very excited to find such things as 6 or 9" gorgeous embroidered squares of carousel horses, roosters, botanicals & flowers...just so many wonderful pieces that I can add to a quilt!

If any of you are here, THANK YOU for your services and beautiful products! I'll be shopping VERY soon (as soon as I can cull this list down some- LOL!)

My Bernina 440 had embroidery capability for another $1000 but I figured I could buy a whole ton of ready made squares for that. I would gladly pay for the few I would want and will not feel guilty about it. Glad you have found a good source for the ones you want.

I have purchased very nice embroidered squares quite reasonably also on e-bay. I would order again at least from this particular seller. The embroidery was lovely.

I have an embroidery unit for my Bernina. I didn't have that in mind but I bought the machine used as a package deal. I've loved having the embroidery capibility. Mostly, I've done quilt labels, towels and a few shirts. I also did custiom embroidered corner blocks a few months ago for a quilt a friend was commissioned to make and they looked great in the quilt.

I have a quilt planned that will incorporate embroidered blocks, using the Laurel Burch dogs designs on a black background and combined with the matching fabric.

I have two stand alone embroidery machines and love them both. I have only made one quilt with embroidered blocks but I use both machines in fits and starts. The great part is that you can be sewing or quilting on your regular machine while the embroidery machine does it's own thing. If you are really lazy like me you can use varigeted thread on your emboridery machine and not have to keep changing the thread color. It has a start and stop button so you don't have to hold down a foot pedal etc. My kind of embroidery.

I love, love to do hand embroidery! Have done several pieced quilts where I incorperated embroidery. Its so relaxing and something you can easily take with you.
