Default Are Dots Considered Feminine?

While I am waiting for vintage fabrics and embroidery pieces to come my way so that I can made my quasi-crazy quilt, I tried out a star block set this afternoon. I am fascinated with it! It is made by layering two squares of coordinating fabric and then cutting, sewing, cutting, sewing, etc. It results in 2 blocks that are the inverse of each other. My picture shows the prints that I used, and now I am going through my stash looking for other black and white prints.

My question is this: are polka dots considered feminine? Ideally, I would like this quilt to be gender neutral, but I am wondering if boys would maybe be less than thrilled with the dots. Please give me your opinion.

Thanks!

Dayle

I think those are very masculine dots, but is the sashing pink? That would change things.

Very cool blocks. It must be fun to watch them come together.

nuetral gender? possibly adding flowery sashing (black/white or black/red combination) would add a bit of feminity to the quilt.

I think the way they are now it is neutral but if you put something in black in there with a print it would depend on the next prints. I think only pink or purple dots are just for girls. I don't know a boy that would be happy with those, but the ones you have look great.

The pattern is in Fons and Porter Sept/Oct 2005. The blocks are called "Lucky Stars Blocks", and they are part of a wallhanging called "Witches Workshop Sampler". What I like about them is that there are no templates -- the cutting is freeform within restrictions, so the blocks look whimsical and are all different.

I have more different sizes of dotted fabric that I can use from my stash, but I want to be sure that they wouldn't be a turn-off to boys, so I am gathering opinions on that.

The color on my picture makes the red look a little pinkish. I am thinking of using some other bright colors for the strips, such as yellow, green, blue, etc., but I want the star parts to be black and white prints.
