I am trying to figure out a size for a project
If I start with 3, 4 or 5, inch squares what will the finished block size be ???

starting with 3 inch squares will give you a finished block of 7.75. 4 inch squares will give you a finished block of 10.75, a 5 inch will give you 13.75. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.:)

That math isn't working for me.

D9P - this guy? Just so we're all talking about the same thing.

I've never made one but it's clear you have 3 seams (2 from joining the squares plus one from resewing after the cut), plus the outside seam allowances.

So whatever you started out with, you would always end up with a finished block 2" less than the sum of the 3 cut squares.

3" cut squares = 7" finished
4" cut squares = 10" finished
5" cut squares = 13" finished


Or am I missing something?

LOL!! You are right, I was only counting a quarter for all the seams instead of half, quarter on each side. Too early in the morning for me.:)
