I posted on another post about what I would need for quilting. My machine also does embroidery. From first experience with it, I think I will really enjoy it! However, the letters or monograms are not as large as I need them for towels, etc. The salesman said I would need a PTS and a software package. The total package to add would be about $550 which is a little much for now with the cost of the machine. Will I need that or is there another way that would not be as expensive? Thanks!

Shop around for software. There are several that will work with your machine. Some are cheaper, some are not. You do NOT have to have the Babyloc/Brother software...... Embrid is one that comes to mind, but don't know anything about it. A good site to visit that has lots of information is.

    Good luck and have fun!

No, you don't have to buy the Brother software. I use Sew What Pro from www.sandscomputing.com and also Monogram Wizard Plus and Extended from www.needleheads.com It does all I want it to do. I do have PED Basic which was the card transfer software for my lst Brother. Now I can use a usb to transfer designs. So if your machine uses a memory card, you will need the transfer box (software). It is only abour $100 and you can find it on ebay, too. If you have a machine with the usb, then you're all set to go with any software you like.

Most of the software has demo products which you can download and play with to see which want you like the best.
