your bobbin thread needs to be tightened, look in your book.
titanium needles are best, not all metallic thread is good. if it is not smooth as you slide through your finger tips, get rid if it. if it twist and turns into knots as you take it off the cone, get rid of it.life is to short to let this get the best of you. fine a better thread. yli, iscord, is better.

Have you tried using lingerie bobbin thread in the bobbin? I use this all the time for my embroidery and have never had a problem with it showing on top. I think it also comes in black. Hope you will give it a try; I think you will be pleased with the results.

If your thread is not metallic use the same color in the bobbin.
Are you using emb. or top stitch needle ? If you havent had this problem in the past try cleaning and oiling your machine, new needle and make sure you are useing proper stablizer.
Good Luck.

If that happens to me and I can not correct it is I will call the place where I purchased the machine . They can answer you question for you . I was having the same prom. with my machine I have a brother Quaffro and I was putting the bobbin in upside down.

make sure you have the right size needle, and use the same gold thread, in the bobbin.

I believe that the right stabilizer is critical in any embroidery.

this happen once to me and I solved it by placing the same color stablizer on the top of the material. for instance I was embroidering a red design and the thread kept showing through so I placed a small piece of red plastic bag on the top of the material and it covered the white. or else use red in the bobbin. both work OK.

YOu have to adjust your bobbin tension. Coincidentally, the educator from Superior Threads, Cindy Needham just spoke at our guild last night and it was the first time I have heard about adjusting bobbin tension and how to do it.

you mentioned that you downloaded free patterns not all free patterns are good. Just a thought have you tried to do a different pattern same thread, material ect. every thing the same and if it works then the patterns are faulty.
I very seldom use metallic thread I to have problems I do use a metallic needle under stablizer and solvy on top loosen the top tention as the metallic thread is thicker than regular thread. Good Luck, and if your metallic thread twists as it come off the spool I take and unwind a few yards of it and it feeds real nice then. My softwear tells me how much thread will be used.
