Default Vintage Green For A GFG Quilt

I'm planning to make another Grandmother's Flower Garden, but this time I'm making it with only three fabrics for the flowers (last time I made scrappy flowers), the center will be bright yellow, and the next two rounds will be alternated with a bright pink print and a bright orange print. I am also going to make the green path between the flowers and I wanted to use the beautiful green color that is used in the vintage quilts, but I was having a hard time trying to decide on the best color from the choices on line. I settled on Kona Cotton in Pond. Here is a link https://www.fabric.com/buy/ef-256/kona-cotton-pond . I can't wait to get started.

That is a good choice. I admire anyone who can do hexies. Be sure to show us when it is done.

I have a quilt, make by my grandmother, that has the green path between the flowers. I think the green Kona you're looking at is a bit too bright-jade for the look (I think) you want. The old-time cloth is a duller green, more like Kona's leaf green. Look also at celadon and laurel if you haven't bought yet. I went to eQuilter.com just now to look at colors; they have a huge selection. And I think your quilt would also be fine in the green you mentioned.

That green was called poison green. Here's an interesting article about it written by Barbara Brackman. I think your green is perfect.

Poison green was the color of a yellowish green used in the 1800's. The green popular in the 1930's is different, more of a saturated mint green color, not yellowish at all. I like the one in the link you provided, but before buying it, you may want to look at 1930's reproduction fabrics. There may be a reproduction fabric for the 1930's Nile green which is spot on.

I really like the green you picked out and can hardly wait to see how it goes. Quite a few years ago I wanted to do the GFG with the green path and could not find a green that I liked. So those flowers are still sitting in with a couple other WIP's.

I have a small scrap of real 1930's green...it is more like a Nile green...not so bright or so yellow. No matter though. Your quilt will be stunning!

I also have a 1930's quilt from my husband's great aunt and the green is darker without a yellow cast, but based on your 3 flower fabric choices I think your green choice will compliment them beautifully! Looking forward to pics of your progress!
