I bought a new book called "Serge and Merge" and it shows how to use your serger to make quilt tops. Does anyone on here use this method? It looks interesting.

who wrote it? Kaye Woods does that I think.
i dont' have a serger though so haven't tried that method.

It makes a little bulkier seams, but in some quilts, I think it would make for a fast assembly :D:D:D

It is written by Sharon V. Rotz. She uses the serger to sew the pieces of the quilt top together and lets the seams show in some of the tops. She also serges some of the pieces and then then stitches them on top of others.

I have done that method with my serger. There are no raw edges when you serge.

I used my serger once to sew the seams of piecing the back of my quilt. Never again, I could feel the thick seam through the back of the quilt. Just too bulky in my opinion. Try a sample piece, layer it and see what you think before making a whole quilt.

I do one block with the serger which is a bow tie (the center is puffy) and like it alot. I have heard of the book and want to get it. Let me know how it goes.

I have made lots of strip quilts on my serger. They are great for kids and wear very well, of course they are not meant to be heirloom quilts. I use poly batting and they are slighly puffy when finished. It is a quilt as you go method and both sides are done at once.

I serge clothing, but I don't like the effect on a quilt.
