We are ten months into our fabric moratorium BUT anyone can join at any time :) The official end of the moratorium is 1 November 2011. Just 1 month left.

Here’s a quick summary of the guidelines/rules:
• no fabric purchases to start a new quilt top (till 1 November 2011)

“Allowed” purchases include any item required to finish an existing project (either WIP or UFO), including but not limited to:
• batting
• backing or binding fabric
• fabric (if nothing in your stash will work)
• thread or notions
• fabric purchased on a plan prior to 1 December 2010 (e.g. block of the month)

So why are we doing this – the reasons are as varied as there are people involved. Some of those reasons include:
• de-stashing
• focus on finishing WIPs
• financial constraints

Want to bend the guidelines/rules a little? Sure – go for it. Some have chosen to:
• commit for a shorter period of time
• buy fabric if a really good sale comes along
• setting a budget for how much they will spend each month
• use 1 fabric from their stash each month
• purchase new fabric for volunteer projects

Still can’t believe there is only one month to go…

Cheers

Well, I blew it. Ordered 160 fq's from online business that had them for a great deal......

Then was notified my order was cancelled due to them running out of fq's.....

I know, I know...this means officially, I did not buy any, but...I HAVE NO WILL POWER!!!!! Booohoooohooo!

I don't think I ever officially joined the moratorium, but I've been trying to do it anyway! You've inspired me to really knuckle down on my WIPs and UFO's to the point where I've actually been learning machine quilting just to help me get them done. I've allowed myself to purchase tools and batting only - a stitch in the ditch foot (which is great!) and a matching 1/4" seam foot that is now my new best friend.

So far, I've finished a Trip Around the World lap quilt that had been languishing for 7 or 8 years and is now happily displayed on my wall and an Amish-Oriental lap quilt. I'm at the binding stage of a Summer in the Park.

The Moratorium has made me go through my stash and feel really grateful for the fabric I've been able to accumulate!

YEAHHHHHHH Only one more month to go!!!!! I have yet to go out and buy anything...but it is getting real tempting. I have been very busy quilting, did a double log cabin ( my first comissioned quilt), a king french braid (still have to post), currently have a king size bargello (surf song) on my frame, and have gathered all the necessary fabrics for my next project "Rain Drops" by Judy Neiymer. However, all that being said, my stash has been sorely depleted the past 10 months and will need life support soon. Guess I'll have to go shopping...but...NOT until the New Year. However, just a rough tally in my head, I have done 5 king size, 7 lap quilts/double(65"x65" min) and 3 oversized baby quilts (60 ins sq) this year from my stash alone and loving it...

Quilterella, Go girl. You have done a lot of quilting. You deserve a pat on the back.

I have done this without even trying. My last fabric purchase was on January 2nd - for a quilt that I am still working on. Haven't bought an inch of fabric since. Isn't that tragic? :)

I did this and didn't even know about it. :-) I have mostly bought what I needed to finish a project.I think I have bought a few others from people here on the board to make purses for my DD and DGD . I'm not quite sure how many I have finished this year I didn't keep track. But I know for sure I finished one full size completely, 2 vintage ones , one basted, one just the top And I have 7 tops that need to be quilted.I was hoping to have all finished before the end of the year but I really don't see that happening.

Spent a few days with our son in Albuquerque. Didn't even enter a fabric store.
