I use an old office or teachers desk for my sewing machine piecing and general sewing area, including binding.
The desk measures 30" wide x 60" long, has 3 drawers on one wide of the knee hole, plus 1 file drawer and another 6" drawer on the other side. Also the pen-pencil drawer in the center. DH cutout for my machine, but I find it easier to use just sitting on top of the cut out.
I think I paid $45 for it many years ago. Less expensive now, especially if there is a surplus store close.
Also have file cabinets for my stash that were only $20 each from the same store. These were from a school district, just a few dings and paint scrapes. Work Great!!!

I brought a Sauder sewing cabinet from Wal-Mart for my Brothers Project Runway shared with my Singer Serger and I use a computer desk for my Husqvrna Viking H/Class 500E.
