My sister-in-law makes something like you have described. She uses them for hat pins. They are sure pretty, but I have never known what to do with them. I don't wear hats and they don't look too good on ball caps. (She wears large brimmed, protection from the sun, straw hats...or I think they are straw. Guess I don't know what they are made of.)

I can see one looking good in my pin cushion though. Wonder where I put the one she gave me...

I'm not familiar with these either...but I think Fancypins might be a cute name for someone to use on the Quilting Board! I did a Google search and there's info out there...here's a link to some pictures.

[QUOTE=BellaBoo;5704823]What dumb bunny would mail a pincushion full of pins in a paper package?

OK, no name calling. I would stick the pins in a small square of fabric and mail them in a padded envelope. No pincushion required.

These are some of the fancy pins I have made for decorating pin cushions. I usually just take something I think is cute and hot glue it to a flower quilting pin. The others I just make out of beads. Not sure this is what you are talking about.

I worked at the PO before I retired, you would be shocked at what people mail!! Expensive gifts in the type of box for under the tree, some complete with wrapping paper and get upset when it gets crushed!! Yea, they are out there and they breed!

I have thought about making some of these, but didn't know where to get the really long pins that didn't already have a fancy top.

Here are some of the fancy pins from the florist. The ones with the pearl tops are corsage pins and crystal ones are from the sparkle that some florists add to roses. I have much prettier fancy pins in a pretty pin cushion in my sewing room, need I say more? Yep, can't find them but I put a couple of small beads and a charm on the grey pearl top pins so you can get the idea.

I have a few I received in pin cushion swaps and they are so pretty but I wouldn't use them. I just look at them and smile. :-)
