my understanding to that was there was an issue with the old FQ and so they had marked them down to clear out...

As to the selvage, when I ask my LQS to make a FQ for me from a bolt, they cut a half yard, then turn the ruler to the fold line and trim the tiniest bit off there to make two pieces, then go to the selvage side and remove whatever is needed to get to 22"...

Here in the two Virginia Joann's I've been it, they are selling the same brand, same stickers, new bins, and increased price. Might be different where you are.

Last time I was at our old JoAnn's (before they closed it and reopened about 50,000,000 miles away) they were $1.99. Same fabric as they had before, but marked up 70 cents. Needless to say, I didn't buy any. Last week I went to Hancock and got fat quarters for 99 cents and they were absolutely adorable, pretty, fun, and very nice. Maybe it is just that since none of us got a COL raise, we can't take a 70 cent hit. I know I can't! (I used to pay $1.29 regularly at JoAnn's (which I never did because I always bought them on sale for 99 cents) or would be 1/4 yd of fabric off the bolt. Another thing to I found out from Hancock. You know how you would always get the end of the bolt for 50% off whatever the price was? Not any more!!!!! I had 33 inches of fabric (measured it myself with my handy-dandy tape measure that I keep in my purse) (and people wonder why my purse is so heavy) so I knew I would be able to get it for the 50% off, plus it was 40% off besides and thus giving me a good 90% off. I've done it before many a time, both at Hancock and JoAnn's. Well, they told me at Hancock's that the powers that be would rather toss the fabric than sell it at the 50% off. She said they have been having a lot of waste that way. What a crime!~ Here we could be making nice quilts for people, ourselves, Quilts for Kids, Quilts of Valor and Hancock says no!

Happy Day to you all! Edie

Sounds like they've been taking lessons from Walmart.

I don't mind spending extra $$ for quality goods, but that does not seem to be the case at Joanne's. I find that their quilting fabric is stiff, thin and generally poor quality. I either go to the local quilt store, or to Hobby Lobby as we're lucky enough to have both nearby. If you're going to spend all the time to make a quilt, why use yucky fabric? Especially since most of mine end up being gifts! :-D

I have found that the FQ at Joanne's is not a true fQ. They are short!

I work at a quilt shop and to cut a fat quarter we cut 1/2 yard, turn it and cut it on the fold---then we sell it. I have NEVER heard of cutting off to selvage to make the fabric exactly 18X22. In fact, we usually cut our 1/2 yard part at 19", so it is a generous FQ.

I bought FQs at a shop not too far from me recently and they were cut so "warped" that I ended up with 16 1/2 X 21 when I squared up the fabric. I was really mad!!!

My local Joanns store hasn't had fat quarters for over a month. I went in yesterday they had a small selection for $1.39. However thet looked like the same ones they have had before. They have removed their old dislays racks and these were just on a portable end cap rack
