What is the advantage of using them? How does the cost compare to fabric off the bolt? I just did a couple of baby projects using them and it made it very simple. Has anyone ever bought from Missouri Quilting?

Fat quarters are a great way to get a lot of variety, and if bought in sets, they are already coordinated for you. The cost seems to usually be just slightly higher than yard goods. You can figure cost per yard by simply multiplying the cost per fat quarter by 4. The disadvantage I see with them is that you are limited to the size of pieces or strips you can cut from each one. I love seeing beautiful stacks of coordinated fat quarters, and sometimes buy them, but usually I stick to yard goods because I tend to mostly be making queen size quilts right now.

usually more expensive as cutting charge is built in. Unless you can get them on sale. You have to compare what the cut yardage would be. They are often more expensive then you could buy 1/4 yds.
Yes, they are convenient to get a large variety of prints. So you have to balance the cost vs convenience and know if the cut size is economical for you.

I mostly make scrappy quilts, so they are a great way to build your stash. And MSQC is a very nice place to shop and they have great cutomer service.

I'm new to quilting but I did just purchase a bunch of different ones for a quilt I am now working on. I was lucky and got them at 40% off at Joann's. I was thrilled since this is my first quilt keeping the cost to a minimum would be good. I did purchase some fabric from bolts for the trim and two other fabrics. My total was under 75.00 That did not include my batting or the back fabric but I thought this was great.

I'd say that if you can get them on sale and they will work for your pattern then its worth looking into due to the fabric savings.

I don't usually buy fq, but I did buy a set of fq at Walmart because they were on clearance for $2 for a pack of 8 fq! They made a nice quilt. Lately I've been making a lot of scrappy quilts to use up the small pieces of material I have at home.

They are great for swaps. Buy a yard, cut it 4x'a=1 for me and 3 to swap. I love the Yellow Brick Road pattern for a quick gift.

I like fat quarters but if you add up the cost per fat quarter x 4 you usually end paying more per yard. I ususally wait till the fat quarters go on sale $1 or $1.50 each don't feel so bad about buying them. What I like about them the size is more managable for cutting then having a whole yard+ to cut from. I just received a package from Missouri Quilt today, this is my second order. I think there prices are a light high so I wait till they offer free shipping and bonus points and something that I really want. The first order they sent me one thing wrong, upset but not worth sending back, this order was right, thank goodness.

I usually buy the yardage I need for a project and add another yard to the purchase. That way I can cut 2 FQ's and several strips for my stash. Much less expensive than buying the pre cuts and they really add up fast.
