I just got some fat quarters at a garage sale - one batch was from JoAnns, the other was from Hancock.

Of about 10 fat quarters, maybe TWO of them were barely 18 inches in length. The rest were 17-3/4 to 17-7/8 inches long.

I suppose in Jo-Ann's defense, the label DID say "approximately 18 x 22 inches" :hunf:

For width, I assume 20-22 inches will still be "right"

Our Joanns has a sign hanging on the shelf above the FQs saying they could be shorter than the packaging says and if you are not satisfied, feel free to return them.

Buyer beware!

This is what I was told, also. "It's not Joanne's it's the fabric companies."

Has anyone noticed that the markings on the salvedges are getting wider? Used to be about 1/4" to be trimmed off. I got fabric from ConnectingTheads and had to trim off over an inch. Is this also going to be the norm?

yoiks!

fingers crossed it was an oddball bolt.

That sounds like a "second" piece of fabric to me.
(Golly - what if you had gotten that from "you know where"?)

My JoAnn calls them "fabric quarters." I didn't know why the different name, but I think I now understand. It's a quarter of the fabric and may or may not be from a 44"-45" width. :|

I bought a pack of fat quarters from HL, some of them are cut so crooked; by time I straightened them I got 16"x 18" good fabric. and the selvage was cut off.
