I am doing a pattern called Chess Mixx from an Atkinson book. It is a 9patch star and has lots of little peices. 32 little squares, 8 bigger squares, and 8 rectangles for each color. I am making a queen size so it is taking a few days to cut.

Now I get interupted A LOT! My hubby, the kid, and the little cat Boo is always into something. With all this I tend to lose my train of thought soooo I took a peice of painters tape and wrote my sizes and quantity of cuts for each color. Then I simply stuck it to the corner of my cutting board.

Has already saved me a few boo boo's because of Boo! LOL

I make my cuts in the same order every time and when I come back, all I do is see what size is the last one cut and start right where i was.

Good idea! great way to keep track!
I always make a copy of the pattern i am doing, and highlight the last thing i cut.I mark all over the pattern! I also use sticky notes alot too...

Nice idea, thanks. I keep a roll of painters tape on my work table. It has a lot of uses.

I use mini address labels to mark the dimensions on fabric pieces I've cut. I cut the labels in half to stretch them even further. I also write all over my patterns so I know exactly what is what and where.

What a great idea! Right now I am frustrated with myself because I can't find an Atkinson fabric which I'd love to use with batiks. Somehow, my pattern storage system has failed, but I have rediscovered all kinds of fabric which had been forgottten. Heehee :-) Thanks for sharing....

I copy the cutting page-pages and lay out pieces in sets of 10s, making a cross, when I finish cutting a size- color or whatever I pin a note to it and if I have to cut for different blocks I put that on the note too, and check it off on my copy until I am through cutting. I also cut all borders and my binding picecs at that time also. I like cutting all the fabrics at one time. I then store them in a plastic box W/lid.

I love the blue painters tape. I use it on my rulers, cutting board, sewing machine and fabric. It leaves no residue but sticks well. These tips that are shared are so great. Thanks everyone.
