I have been looking for a pattern to make a cover to go over my Featherweight carrying case. I know there is one available from Featherweight RX, but wondering if anyone else has run into any. My DH bought me a FW last month, so I would get back into going to quilt classes (my Janome is too heavy for me to carry to classes). The FW, my first one, came with a a functional but sad(banged up, scratched, scuffed, etc) looking case. I think it would be fun to make a colorful outer case for it. I would draft something but have found in the past I am dismally bad at that function! Any thought, suggestions, links to patterns?

I want to be sure that I understand you. You want to make a cover for the already existing but battered FW case? If that is the case, it should be pretty easy. It would be like a slipcover for a foot stool but with an opening in the top to allow you access to the handle of the case, right? Forgive me if I am missing the point.

You have it right. I can follow a pattern beautifully - could probably build a house if given a pattern - in fact I train adults to do their jobs and use their production software, customer service, etc, but I am lousy at trying to take a 3D item and turn it into a 2D pattern. MY DH and mom say it is a spacial thing for me. I just want something cheerful to put over the beat-up hard case cover when it is sitting out in an area that people walk through all the time at my home.

There's one in this back issue of Quilter's Home Magazine.

This blogger made hers from the pattern in the magazine (above) and then decided to add handles because apparently the handles on the original carrier sometimes give way and cause the FW to fall. Now I'm thinking I need to make one of these too!!!

I'm sure a quilted cover/carrier would be beautiful. Another option (until you get your pretty one done) is to use a wheeled backpack. I love being able to pull the machine around on wheels!

thanks for the back pack idea. I actually need one for work to move training materials from building to building and it certainly would serve for the double duty of the FW and work!
