Well I have the Olfa brand and it works great. Did you make sure your surface was fairly level and that they were together securely before you started? Can't imagine how it could be anything wrong in the design.

My Fiskar works great and one of my favorite cutting mats for small pieces. But one of my friends got the same one and had to pop it back onto the base and she's very careful using it on a level surface, too.
I looked at mine to see if there was a "locking chip" on the black rotating base but didn't see anything. But my mat is now 4 years old and has done great for the heavy use it goes through.

I have the same one, and have the same problem. It is absolutely useless. If you have the receipt, return it. By the time I used mine, the receipt was long gone, so I was out the $$$.

My comes apart very easily, nothing locks it together. But when it is on a table or counter, it stays together as I spin it. Does that help?

Love my Fiskars rotary mat. Yes, it does come apart but if it didn't it would not rotate.

I have the same one.. It needs to Be on a that surface and the mat has to be flat too sometimes it's a lil warped so it needs to be squished between books to make it flat again.. But I love mine..

Be sure the bottom part is not turned over. I was mad as heck with my Olfa and found out I had the bottom turned upside down.
