I came across an old childs dress in my family trunk and the design is so pretty. I got to thinking it would be neet to make a quilt with altering blocks of smocked and regular blocks. Has anyone ever done this and give me some pointers as I have never done smocking.

I think it will give texture to the quilt and an interesting design.

I've seen a child's quilt made with smocked pieces but can't tell you where (old age moment). Anyway, I learned to smock a couple of years ago and it requires quite of bit of equipment..... Anyway, if you do a search online, you can find videos of smocking lessons that might give you an idea of what you are getting yourself into. Of course if you just use the sections from the dresses you have it would be much easier.

Smocking is not an easy technique. I would suggest doing a search on youtube and maybe checking out some books from the library.
A smocked block will be very dense, and will puff out a bit more than the other blocks will.
Another option is to purchase pre-smocked fabric :D:D:D
