Default Flannel and Fleece Together Need Advice

I am wanting to hear about your experiences and advise about putting flannel and fleece together for a throw or bed size blanket.
Someone told me to serge but then said to baste first ????
Both materials stretch How do keep them square?
How did you finish them; Sew and turn; Serge; Sew and Bind or ????

TIA for all your help.

Wash and dry the flannel at least twice because it shrinks two ways.

I made a couple roughly using the self binding baby blanket method. I used the fleece as the backing and the flannel as the front. I would have to measure to get the dimensions but pretty sure I used the whole width and maybe 2 yards length of the fleece and pieced the flannel to fit. I did quilt the pieces together using straight diagonal lines spaced about 6 inches apart. They have held up very well and are very warm and snuggly. Noticed the other day one is getting a bit thread bare and I need to make another. It is about 10 years old and has been through a lot!

Fleece stretches a LOT more than flannel and doesn't shrink when washed. I agree with ragamuffin, wash/dry the flannel first.
