I don't think it would be too warm but that is just personal preference. I have family in upstate NY and when I visit I feel the humidity makes it a little cooler and a nice warm quilt would be nice to have.

I usually make a quilt with a cotton top and flannel back with batting but made one for hubbie with flannel both top and bottom and 80/20 batting. It is heavy but my husband says it's like a "mother's hug" when he wraps up in it.

I would use the supplies provided or ask your charity coordinator if she was given and specific guidelines to follow. I am not a big flannel person so I would say to make it without and that to me would be perfect. However I am not a sick child or worried parent that may get chilled in the night.

The guild receives a lot of the materials for these projects through donations. If I can make the final project better by purchasing better batting or additional fabric, I don't hesitate to do so.

I have made flannel quilts with cotton batting. Recipients loved them. Would use poly and flannel.
