I found a green Singer 319W at a local consignment shop for $60.00. It looks a bit cruddy, but could probably be cleaned up.
It's in a cabinet and has a bunch of cams and attachments.
Is it worthwhile to buy this? Would it help if I took some photos and posted them? Thanks for the help!

I paid $25 for mine (in a cabinet with cams and attachments)
I'm currently using it for my quilting because I wanted something that did fancy stitches without a lot of hassle..
Do keep in mind that it uses 206 needles (available online at Allbrands)

It is a work horse ! Mine has had two full generations of hard constant use. I love it and would not give it up. Mine has the good old fashoned knee control , which I really love and wish new machines have one.
My sewing machine repair guy who "see's" my newer machine tells me ( about the old machine) just keep it oiled and clean it will run forever! If mine ever does finally wear out , I will be heartbroken and look to replace it with the same machine.

Thanks for the responses. I took my hubby to the consignment shop on 12/24, but they were closed until today. We went back today - 2 trips since they were not open at 30 minutes past their opening time. We tried to negotiate the price and were told they mark things down on the first of the month and don't bother the owners of the items until then. We were told to come back and check after the first, but they won't actually be open again until the 4th. It's already been marked down from 100.00 to 60.00 and we might pay that but the machine needs some major cleanup work. I couldn't believe they weren't willing to contact the owner. Thoughts??

I would have grabbed it while I could. The cams alone are worth $10. each on ebay. I paid 85.00 for mine and is was horribly dirty. Took me days to clean and oil but it is perfection now. I had to sand down the cabinet and re-stain it it was so bad. But you can do it all yourself. No need to pay anyone. Its all easy.

Good for you. I found a 503 a couple of months ago. Couldn't decide if I needed it or not. It was in the cabinet and needed a little cleaning. I went back and I am so happy I did. It had the wrong cams but I purchased them on Ebay for 8.00 the machine cost me 12.95, so I got a machine for a very cheap price. It had 3 tiny scratches on it but you can hardly see them. You will be so happy you went back...

We found a 319W with cabinet. The motor is fine. Cleaned it up a lot and oiled all the oil holes but it seems to be continuing to not be able to turn the needle mechanism. I can turn the wheel around to make the needle go up and down but it feels tight. And it doesn't seem as though there's anyway to get inside the machine to clean the internal mechanism. I don't have the manual. I have other old singers that were very gunked up that I completely dismantled and cleaned all the gunk out and oiled and they run like jet engines but this one has a design that prevents one from accessing the internal mechanism. Any suggestions?

I also have a 319W. I'm interested in using it for quilting, but do not have a free motion pressed foot. Does anyone know of a good one I can purchase for this machine? Thanx a bunch!
