I have a quilter's frame and need advice on how best to attach quilt to the dowels. I have material on one side but it still slides when i roll the dowel to tighten up the quilt...Does anyone have an idea. Picture is attached of the frame. I bought this years ago and they do not make this frame anymore.

You might try thumb tacks. You can still get them in most office supply stores.

Get the leaders for the machine quilting frames. They stick on with velcro, then you pin your top to them.

We have a frame something like this at our church. We stapled the fabric to the dowel, and then we pin the quilt to the fabric.

Hi, You need to make a sleeve for each of the outside bars that is about twice as big around as the pole. Slide it on the pole and then thumbtack or staple it to the wood so that you have at least a couple of inches of fabric haning free. Pillow ticking fabric or even denim makes a good sturdy sleeve. To put the quilt on the frame closely pin or baste one end of the basted quilt to each pole and then roll the poles until the quilt is stretched fairly taunt. It is best to start quilting in the center and work your way out. You can take turns rolling from one side or the other. We have a similar frame in our quilting room at the local senior center. I was told if you wanted to work on a smaller area that you attached one side of the quilt to the pole closer to the middle.

I have a Grace no basting frame and it came with a package of quilter's thumb tacks. They are bigger then regular tacks. If you don't have a staple gun then the tacks will work great.

I do have a sleeve on the one side and need to make another one for the other side and then staple it so it does not roll. that is the one thing I did not due with the existing sleeve...This way it won't slide . thanks for the suggestion

For mine, I thumbtack. Was able to get quilter's tacks at my local Hancock's. I was at a quilting shop one day, and they have velcro attached to the frame, the hook part of the velcro, and then i think she just put the quilt on top of that. I have also seen it pinned with either straight pins or safety pins.

I'm with Marjpf, you need a different 'leader' the velco works great, I used this on my Handiquilter, then altered it to use a second 'leader' that attaches to the quilt top with a running stitch, and the 2 leaders attach using a zipper.The first leader is stapled to the dowel.
It made loading the quilt less unpleasant for me, but , still unpleasant enough that I handquilt my babies now.
