I just had a friend as how to get some unidentified stains out of an old quilt. It's probably 40 years old, had been packed away and she doesn't know if it was put away clean or not. I know I've seen a recipe for a "paste" or "goo" of some kind to put on very old and delicate fabric, but I have no idea where that was. Anyone have any ideas?

May be that stain remover that you can buy at different fabric stores will work. I think it's called "Grandma's Stain Remover"
something like that. It's just a little bottle.

I haven't tried it, but others speak highly off it.

Retro Clean is one I've seen recommended for old quilts. Here is the link:

This was from another post hope it helps....

I also use this for my everyday laundry...love it...no need for fabric softner...there is no static cling.

You use only 2 tsp per quilt...and 2 tbsp for a load of laundry. And yes, I have been using it in my front load washer for years with no problems.

Mix in an old ice cream bucket or canister

1 cup Borax
2 cups washing soda (oh so clean)
1 cup dry bleach for unbleachables (doesn't hurt the quilt because you only use 2 tsp of this recipe for washing)
1 bar of grated laundry bar soap (I use sunlight most times)

Enjoy!
