I was not buying a new machine so he was not trying to sell me anything, he is my good friend for years. He said that with the problems in Japan (and I've heard this from my own son who works for a Japanese Co) parts and supplies for your sewing machines as well as new machines may soon become costlier and perhaps in shorter supply until they can recover. So if you know your machine needs a fixin' you might want to think about this.

Also, we should remember these machines are made with plastic....plastic is a petroleum product.....so we can expect as the price of oil goes up, so will sewing machines. Just passing on what I heard.

This is the truth, I deal with Brewer sewing & quilting and although Bernina bought them out, MOST machines post 1970 have plastic parts and most parts made in Japan!

I am already having issues in getting bobbin cases and certain feet!

whose prices are going to also go through the roof soon....we have to be a bit more SNEAKY at not spreading the word to buy vintage or we won't be able to afford them either!

Oh how I agree. Not be be full of gloom and doom but as we always see how fabric is going up, theads and battings will be through the roof also. I fear we're in for quite a long time of price increases in everything we purchase. Remember when the last big gas prices hit everything in the grocery stores went up and they never went back down again....I just hope this doesn't happen with the current situation. Since I have always tried to buy only items that had reduced prices/sales I even see those going up now. We are all going to have to be very proactive in our purchasing from now on.....that is one fact that makes the businesses wake up and take notice as to their profit line. Course with our beloved quilting that seems to be a different story and we have to watch for the quality items we want when they are on sale. When there are sales of items you want/normally purchase it is best to buy as much as you can and stock up as best as you can.
