Default Garage sales ROCK!!!!

Yesterday we visited a "divorce" sale. Apparently the wife walked out and husband is selling her leftover stash (supposedly with wife's consent). The woman helping had zero knowledge of fabrics so was relying on the kindness of the quilters buying the stuff.

I got a Crabapple Hill complete kit, a Moda 2008 BOM set with finishing kit (on Ebay for over $250), a huge roll of civil war repros and a shirting roll. Lastly, a bit suitcase tin filled with 8 honey buns and the coord. fabric for a pineapple sundae quilt. Yummy. We told her to have it again and sell all the fabric by the pound to make it easier. It was so disorganized that I am sure there was more great stuff and coordinating fabric but we could not find it. I also had husband in tow and that slows me down.

Today we stopped at a quilters stash reduction garage sale and I found 62 brights coord. fat quarters still in ribbon, another smaller stack with coord. yardage in bright flower colors, a bundle of37 of the colors of a tone on tone collection, a cute kit, 48 civil war fat quarters bound together from one collection and some novelty fabrics.

All for about 30% of retail. So glad I found them before going to Paducah as now I will not be shopping for fabric. I am so excited to actually use this fabric.

Wow sounds like a lot of fabrics...the price sound a little high for a garage sale.

You might think this was high but the quality was fantastic and it was all just what I wanted.

The fat quarters around here at shops at the best ever sales are now $1.50. These at the garage sale were around 75cents.

The big kits at around 30% (or 70% off) are terrific. One was $40 and on ebay it is over $250. Around here the max sales are 50% for picked over fabrics. We have a LQS going out of business and she has only 20% off her leftovers.

Good prices for me for the quality and first choice.

Here is how I found them:
Sale #1 was a note on our guild facebook page. It was kind of hard to find and a drive but we combined the trip with a fiber fair excursion.
Sale #2 was on craigslist. Not well described but I took a chance. Craigslist is wonderful. Several years ago I got fat quarters for a quarter each and got around 240 of them at one sale off craigslist.

We live in a city of 1 million and in the midwest so there are lots of quilters and stores and stuff. About 4 times a year I find a terrific sale. Some are toads but that is the way for all garage type sales.
