I have run into this problem only with smoke. I used the odor eaters AND Irish Spring for a week and poof ----all gone. Hope this helps.

An old tupperware trick to get smell out of plastic is to stuff it with newspaper. The newspaper absorbs the nasty smell. You could give it a try.

I'm a definite fan of liberal amounts of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) it won't harm anything and can be spread on almost any surface with no worries about damage.

I probably wouldn't wash the blocks, but just seal them up in a box with bicarb for a few days, shake out and they should be fine.

I agree with Febreeze. Spread them out on something that moisture won't bother and spray. Let them dry and if you need to, repeat. Once is usually enough.

Hey, what about the smell that is left on your ironing board from pressing these blocks? I get paranoid, thinking that I will iron mildew or that nasty old smell into the next project. So I wash the ironing board cover with bleach, and clean the sole plate of the iron. Is this smart? Thanks!
