I read an article yesterday that suggested some things people have given up for quilting. It listed a healthy diet, exercise, time with family, and a balanced budget as some of the sacrifices. What have you "given up" for the love of quilting?

My exercise has diminished and it coincides with me having my own sewing room these past 6 months. 'Nuff said.

Sleep.

Because I haven't given up too many of the others on the list, my best time to work is AFTER the kidlet is in bed, which has led to some late nights recently.

Cheers, K

T.V. and some computer time. I now do more with friends but they are quilting friends and I have closer relationships with those people. I go out to quilt stores and shows more often and get plenty of excercixe there. LOL I also quilt with some of my children and many come do their home work in my studio or watch TV when I quilt. Overal what I gave up, TV, time I sure do not miss. For me quilting is also very therapeutic. I am not one to air my feelings to much and it is a great way for me to work through things. One thing that I am giving up also is money. Boy expensive hobby and addictive. Oh yeah sleep. LOL I can never seem to quit.

I've given up - very easily - TV time - :) Gained family time - I sit with them and do handwork, gained lovely quilts and gifts, gained great friends, gained a love of a hobby I'll never give up!

"Giving up" implies that the quilting replaced something else that was equally enjoyable. The things mentioned are simply "supposed necessities" so "giving up" exercise is not so much a hardship for me. lol

I suppose reading books for pleasure would apply.

I am obsessive when it comes to projects if they lull on too long I won't complete them. So have given up exercise and eating/snacking alot b/c if I don't exercise I can't possibly come up with an excuse to snack, also snacky hands yucky fabric, and we just can't have that now can we?? ;)
