Default To Glue or not to Glue????

So after reading a few posts on using glue I had to take the challenge! I was out at the store and decided to by a bottle of glue and a glue stick. I was putting the borders on my quilt and figured there was not time like the present to give it a whirl. Well I realized two things.... #1 I LOVE IT! and #2 I am a glue stick kind of girl! Yes I have to admit I am way to messing to use use the bottled glue! I believe using the glue stick really helped me out! And if you buy the "purple" glue stick that turns clear - well it makes it easier to see where the glue is - lol!! Oh - and when I ran into my LQS yesterday don't you know I found they were selling "Quilter's Glue Stick" for $1.99 - it was only a matter of time....

I keep hearing about using glue for the binding and, for the life of me, can't figure out how you would do it. I use it for applique, and that's about it. I might try basting with it once...although that sounds messy. I will be sticking with Elmer's glue instead of "quilter's" glue. I just bought a huge bottle (nearly a lifetime supply) of Elmer's for less than a $1.

Putting glue on a quilt just doesn't seem right to me. But if you like it, go for it.

I'm still afraid to try the glue. It just seems like it would be so messy.

Well, I'm a convert! After reading about it here and being afraid to try it, I thought, I've got this small piece I'm doing why not give it a try. It worked beautifully on a binding. I did keep a wet wash cloth on hand as I tended to get my fingers a bit sticky. All in all my first attempt went well. Just finished a few minutes ago, it's now in the washing machine for its final finish.

I love my Elmer's glue but prefer the bottle versus the stick, but whatever works for you is great.

Washable school glue has been used in quilt making since it was available. Now it's acceptable to admit and even the award winning quilters have said yes they use it to get perfect results.

I love both Elmer's glue and glue stick. And make sure you get the purple disappearing glue stick. I bought the repositionable glue stick by mistake (it is white) and hated it. My fabric pieces did not stick together at all.

Do you use it straight from the bottle or does it need to be diluted in any way?
