Hi Quilters,

I have a question about thread. I received a catalog in the mail from Connecting Threads and until someone on here made a comment about how good their thread is I did'nt realize I probably needed some help. I am new to quilting. I have not made a thing as of yet. I am trying to get built up to do so. Ok, as far as thread goes I have always just about used what I had to sew with for machine or hand sewing. I realize in quilting that I can't do that.

What I am wondering is if Connecting Threads thread is good thread and if it is only for long arm quilting machines. I just have a Kenmore 150. The prices on their thread is very good but if I can.t use it on my machine it is of no use to me. It is so pretty though...lol. Also, can it be used to hand quilt?

I appreciate all of your opinions.

Yes, you can use it to hand quilt. Just slide it across bees wax or other thread treatment.
Can't tell you if it will work in your machine. Machines are not the same and it has been reported here many times that some threads work well on specific brands of machines and others don't. I personaly have no probem with any thread I use and I have 4 different brands of machines. Also, Connecting Threads product gets good reviews. So guess the bottom line is that it is good thread but have no idea if it will give problems in yur machine. Probably won't. Why don't you get a spool and try it.
And just because it is on a cone doesn't mean it if for long arm quilting.

I think you will be fine with the connecting threads thread. I used it for years for piecing on my DSM.

Connecting Threads Essential thread is 50wt 3 ply cotton. It is good for piecing but can be linty which doesn't bother me. Connecting Threads Essential Pro is 70wt poly. It is strong and good for longarm machines. I use it in my bobbin for all sewing. It's good for piecing too as it is thin and strong and low lint. I have been sewing for years so I have used most all brands of thread. I don't have a favorite brand. I go by weight and ply.

I've had good luck with Connecting Threads, my Brother and Kenmore both work well with it.

I tried their cotton thread years ago, but did not like the lint. Had to clean my machine more often. Also, their cotton spools require a wooden adapter to fit correctly on a regular upright spool pin.

we use connecting threads in our pfaff and bernina, and they are fine.

I guess I assumed it was for longarm because most of what I read on it in the site said it was. Good Idea tho. Ithink I will get some and see if it will work. It never dawned on me to try that....duh...lol.

In recent years they have changed the spools and you no longer need the adapter. I like the thread, my Bernina is happy with anything I put in her, but I do usually use the better threads.

Their poly thread is advertised as longarm thread, but it's great for piecing too, especially in the bobbin. The cotton thread is also fine for piecing, and I have also used it on the longarm. It is more linty than some of the expensive cotton threads (like Superior's Masterpiece), but I'm fine with cleaning my machines frequently.
