Hi, often when I oil using the Bernina oil dispensers or the Singer oil dispensers I end up making a mess. Sometimes the drop misses a hole so I have to do two or three drops; only one of them doing any good :hunf: (kind of like that old kid game of dropping clothespins into the jar-HaHa). Other times, one drop seems like an overkill. I went to my local drugstore hoping I could buy a hypodermic needle but was told I need a prescription. What device do you use to control the placement and amount of oil going to your machine and where can I get one? Thanks in advance!

I buy sewing machine oil in a bottle that has a long extendable nozzle with a red cap on it. Took me a *long* time to figure out how to cap it properly, but worth it! (I think you have to extend first, remove cap, oil, replace cap, then push back in.)

It's not perfect because it requires some practice to judge exactly how much oil is in the nozzle and how much pressure to apply; however, totally beats those short-nozzle sewing machine oil containers.

Here's a link to it:

I think JoAnn's carries it.

Oops. Here's a link to the one I actually have, made by Dritz, and says it has the zoom spout:

The Roxannes glue baste it bottles have a nice blunt needle on them. Also maybe one of the turkey basters that use the injector. You could also you could try asking at a store that sells sewing machines.

You can buy hypodermic needles at a farm supply store without a rx. Great idea!

I bought an oil dispenser at a quilt show at the Marathon Thread booth. I love it. It has a long (hypodermic-type) spout and really helps me control my "oil slicks". It's item number 740 at this site:

Yes, the oil with the pull out nozzle is the best one I've found for oiling my machines. I pull up to extend the tube and remove the cap. I put the end of the tube where I want the oil and gently squeeze the bottle and watch the oil advance down the nozzle. As the oil reaches the nozzle end, I stop squeezing and let one drop go where I want it. I recap the nozzle and push it back down for storage. The brand I have is by Dritz and it reads ZOOM SPOUT Oiler. It's about 4 inches tall in a semi clear plastic bottle with a long tip with a red cap. It contains 4 fl oz. and I think it should last me about 5 years!

I like to use a needle tip oil pen. My husband usally gets them from salesmen at work and he has a whole bunch so he brings a couple home for me to use on the sewing machine.

Thank you for the quick reply everyone. I asked my husband to order the 740 for me. It looks like I can get into tight spaces with it and also control the amount dispensed. I looked up the Dritz and JoAnn's does sell that. So, I might pick that up next time I'm there too. Again, thanks for the help! This board is great.
