when top quilting an applique do you quilt right over it or do you go around it? Stupid question I know? But.

I like the look better when it is quilted around the applique.

its your preference.. some will quilt the inside , for example, you have a circle- some would put a swirl in there "@ " ok not like that but close... and others just stitch the edges..

It's not stupid. It's whatever you prefer. For me, it depends on the piece.

I prefer to go around the appliquw. It makes the applique "puff" up a little.

If my applique needs enhancing or details, I will quilt in the applique. Otherwise, I quilt around it. If I want to quilt a panto on an appliqued quilt, I will make adjustments and still quilt around the applique. In other words, I never quilt OVER an applique. I might quilt IN the applique as mentioned above. Sorry if I'm confusing you. I know what I'm trying to say, it just doesn't always come out right.

I understand what you a saying and that is just what I would say. Quilt in applique only to enhance it, otherwise quilt around it.

Usually around it. Applique pieces seem to pop and look so pretty. The quilting enhances it to me.
