We live in a small town and our local fire station lets the ladies have their break room for quilting if there is a need. Shame on those churches for being so selfish. My home church welcomed activities !

I don't belong to a guild, but my church has a group "Peace by Piece". We meet once a month from 10-3. We work on our own projects and we also do charity quilts. We are a low key, fun bunch. We even have members that come and knit. I would keep checking around. Ask anyone and everyone. Who knows, maybe the hardware store has a conference room they would let you use for a day once a month? Think outside the box and I'm sure you will find someplace:-)

How does one go about finding guilds? Does anyone know of any in the Nashville/Franklin, TN area? If so, what's it like. If it's like a quilt shop I've visited, I don't want to go because for some reason I'm invisible there!

I run a small group(10) of quilters at our Senior Center. We make 4 quilts a year for the center to raffle off. They pay for the batting, backing and the quiltting, so all we have to do is make t he top.By making these quilts we get to use a large room with good lighting and a lot of room to stretch out for 2 days a week from 8am to 8pm. We all work together on the quilts. We do have to bring in our own machines but there is a door to the outside where we can park so we don't have to carry them far. We also have a storage room to store some supplies. We have it made. My husband and another gentleman add alot of fun to our group. They have both made a quilt by themself to raffle off and made more money for the center then the woman. LOL.We all work on our own projetcts and help each other.

I belonged to one but finally gave it up. I just didn't feel comfortable there. If you dread going, don't. Life is too short to do things you don't enjoy.

Don't force yourself to do something that you do not enjoy. Stress takes years away from your life and life is way to short to waste even a minute of it.

Just out of curiosity - would it help if I made a name tag & under my name I put my quilting interests?

(not trying to hijack this thread; I just want a better experience out of the next quilt guild)

so are you going to be 50 this year?
I am...so I am with you on this!
When I turned 50 I decided that I was going to say what I think. I was tired of keeping quiet. (This applies to my family of 10 siblings) If they don't like it that is their problem. It seems I had to get mad before they paid attention. They have been dealing with it now for 13 years.
I was a committee chair in 2 guilds. They were board positions. Sometimes they didn't like it when I asked why or disagreed. I've cut back on my commitments. I needed more time for me.

I don't belong to a guild, doesn't fit into work schedule. But I loved going to a monthly strip poker night at LQS. We had lots of fun & made alot of useful items. The shop closed due to the economy. I'd love to do strip poker again. So much fun.
