I can’t be the only quilter on this site to have made a quilt for a baby that hasn’t been conceived yet!! Ever since my daughter got married, I will be waiting to hear that she is expecting until, well, I hear that she is expecting!

So, mindful of the fact that I have sewing time now, but may not have time to make a boy AND a girl quilt in the time between when we hear good news and a bundle of joy arrives, I made a baby girl quilt, and hope to make a boy one when there’s actual news.

Having not thought this through as well as I might have, I used wool batting, and it’s a lovely quilt, if I do say so myself.

How would you store such a quilt, knowing it needs to be put away for a few months to a few years?

Well, I made a couple of blankets when there was still no grandbaby...

Anytime we store projects for a long time we should get them out and refold them periodically. I would get a nice sturdy box, like maybe what a pair of boots comes in and loosely fold the project in some manner. Resist the temptation to flatten it out, keep it fluffy, and then stick it on the top shelf of a closet and maybe once a year or so, take it out and refold it in a different manner.

If it wouldn't get crushed, instead of a box I'd also consider rolling it loosely and putting it inside of a pillowcase. Again, good closet top shelf storage

You might also want to include some sprigs of lavender in whatever container (box/bag) you store it in - moths are stealthy and skilled at getting where you least want them... I think there are other herbs you can use as well - I just know lavender is the go-to in our house.

Bay Leaf also works to keep the moths away. I made a big cotton bag with little pockets on it (for the Bay Leaf) to store my mother's prize winning quilt in.

Well it's a good thing you used wool batting, because wool resists permanent creasing. 😊

I have some wall quilts and tablerunners that I hang on pants hangers in a closet.
