    Default Hand quilting thread

I've been using YLI hand quilting thread. I just discovered Essential Thread 50/3 on Connecting Threads. Anyone ever used this?

Have not used either of those. I, too, use Americana from Joanns as well as Gutterman and Coates & Clark. C&C probably my least favorite. These are the ones local to me and I'm a touchy feely kinda gal who likes to check actual color vs what my monitor says on any given day.

YLI hand quilting thread (40 wt) is my preference. It doesn't tangle and pulls through the fabric easily. Haven't tried Essential or any 50 wt thread for quilting. You may need to do denser quilting with 50 wt. to avoid a lot of stress on the thread.

This is what I use also. I really like it and the cost is great. I'm getting frustrated with all threads knotting though. I've learned to apply thread conditioner to all threads I'm hand sewing with, but the knotting is so frustrating.

YLI doesn't knot(well - unless I cut it too long, but then that's "operator error") because it's a glazed cotton. When I can get a 400 yrd spool for $4, or a 1200 yd spool for $8, that's much cheaper than Gutterman.

Have you used it? Where did you buy it? I'm using Gutterman now for hand quilting.

I have not tried the quilting thread but have purchased alot of machine weight thread from Connecting Threads and have been quite happy with it.

I have used the CT thread for hand sewing my binding and it knots like crazy, even with waxing and cutting short lengths. If it acts like that for binding, I would not recommend using it for hand quilting. It is fine for machine piecing and machine quilting.
