Default Brother SE400

Need some feedback on the Brother SE400-computerized?" sewing machine--I am looking for one to use for embroidery-quilting-and just sewing? Does anyone have one? Like it? Is it worth it? i think it only does a 4x6-is that too small? Would appreciate any feedback--positive or negative ?

Did you use the search feature to see if there have been prior threads about it?

I have the Brother SE270D and the PE700II (embroidery only). I started with the 270D with a 4x4 hoop and soon realizied that I wanted a larger embroidery area so I bought the 700II. I still use the 270D for regular sewing and a backup to my 700II for embroidery. Love them both!! Mine were refurbished machines I bought from a dealer and I've gotten great support on the 2 issues I've had....minor and over a period of 4 years!!

FYI, I was looking on Overstock.com and they have some great prices on their Brother machines, too!

I have the Brother SE270D and have been very happy with it. It was my "daily driver" for about 6 years, withstood pretty heavy use. I didn't use it as much for embroidery as I did for piecing and garment sewing. I may be wrong, but I think you can additionally purchase a 5x5 hoop for it. I have since acquired a Janome 1600 and a Brother 1500, so I don't use the "baby brother" as my daily driver anymore, but I do use it for buttonholes, zig-zag, etc.

The SE-400 is at Walmart for about $389. Check Amazon for reviews. A lot of people seem very happy with it, the only drawback being the hoop size.

My DH bought me 1 last christmas and i love it,if you like to do 4x4 designs then this is the one for you.I wanted to make bigger embroidery designs so i went out and bought a Bernina which i love too.The brother is easier to take to classes as its not as heavy as my Bernina.I have done regular sewing on it as well as my quilting with it.
I would check Walmart on line to see if the price is cheaper.I know that ebay has these but watch outt for the price as well as the shipping. Good luck i hope you find the machine that your looking for.

I have heard nothing but good about this machine too. I was considering it, but was concerned about being limited to a 4x4 design size.
