My sewing/quilting room is also my castle. Every once in a while one of my fussy daughters will visit and look into my castle and if I'm in the middle of something, like you, it's a mess. They always say something like "MOM! how can you be such a slob?" I just tell them "OUT! OUT! This is MY room, not yours!" But they have also seen it when it was in pretty good shape. Of course I don't get any kudos for that. :lol:

ummm i gasp at my own sewing room lol i figure if its not messy im not creating. but i have a few friends and family
members who have those perfect non messy homes too.
but they also dont have that creative gene either. lol but they sure drool over my quilts.

I have to have my room all picked up and clean in order for me to work. I just can not work in a messy room or cook in a dirty kitchen. I clean my studio more thatn any other room in the house as I spend all of my time in there.

I'm in the process of packing up for a move also.
I have given up all of my extracurricular activities for the time being. How can you possibly de-personalize if you are still in the middle of projects? It's amazing to me that you are doing that. You'll cause yourself to have a nervous breakdown.
Resign from your guild. Stop with the 4-H programs. Resist starting new projects, and if any that you are now working on are very large ones, pack them up and label them as exactly what they are. That way you can go back to them when you're settled in your new home. We tend to take on way too much sometimes and that sounds like what you are doing. Just concentrate on selling your house and on your packing for the move. Once in a while bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies and eat a big bunch of them with a cup or two of strong tea! :D

I showed another quilter friend my sewing room (actually projects I was working on) and she commented on how neat it was compared to her sewing room. I took another look around my room and thought, not bad! I always thought it was rather messy. I pile a project in a spot and know just where to go to look for it among other project piles. Heck, wish I could find the pattern I misplaced!!

I close the door. It is my mess and it makes me happy. I clean up after a project (sometimes). My room is only shown to others who "understand."

Your SIL sounds like she just wanted to be shocked. I'd dismiss her as someone who gets on my nerves and not worth considering her gaspings at all and she'd know it.

My room is a disaster area right now. I admit it! And it normally is not this way. But I shared the room with my son who finally, after 3 years, took his furniture. However, he did not take the "stuff"! I had to empty my fabric from the drawers of the dresser, everything off his desk and hutch and move everything out of the way for them to move all the furniture out. I waited 3 weeks for him to come back, then I boxed up about 1/4 of it, thought why am I doing this? and am waiting. The one wall is lined with boxes now and my "stuff" is in totes all over the floor.

I cleaned the guest room where I had put my stuff while the move was on so I feel better that one room is in control. Past Sat. I showed it to my sister and she was shocked but I showed her it was Jerry's- not mine, so she forgave me. :)

But I can't wait to clean it!

You are so right but it's my one main weak spot, the ability to say "no". Thanks for all the suggestions, I've truly taken them all to heart. Now to put things in prespective. And to be honest after seeing the Peter Walsh show on the gal doing quilts for valor, my spot ain't too bad. Thanks once again and wish me luck.
