A quilter asked about this quilt a few weeks ago. I found the web site to order the book and pattern and I also found it already made on an Amish quilts for sale site that was so beautiful I have to make it just like the picture ( black, hot pinks, blues, greens and purples) but I didn't know how hard this was. I can sew most anything but when it doesn't go together just right I get really upset. Anybody know. Thanks.

I wish I had so I could give you insightful pointers. But, I haven't. I did get on the Amish sight and look at one. It is beautiful. I wish you all kinds of luck. It will be a treasure when you get it finished.

I was the one who asked about the quilt. I ordered the pattern and have made a mock block to see how it was going to look. The two main blocks are basically a log cabin block that is trimmed after it is made and pieces sewn together. It was easier than the original New Orleans Puzzle and not as much fabric waste. And that is important!!!!!!!!!! Need to save all that fabric HA! The smaller blocks were a litle confusing but after I did one was okay with it. I drew it out and colored the blocks and it made more sense. This is a pattern that after you see it done it is easy to do. Just take a deep breath and take your time and you will do fine.

I have seen this quilt in person and it is a sight to behold. I even went back to see it again when I went through the town where I saw it.. Does that tell you anything? I have been sick and so sewing is at a stand still. Have a few baby quilts for charity to finish up and then hope to get going on the Spinning Star. Will let you know.

i was fascinated by that quilt, too. it was easy enough to figure out how the central motif goes together, but my brain wouldn't carry me past that. where did you guys find the pattern? is it for the whole quilt, or just that one block?

You can order the pattern at quiltbooksusa.com. and the pattern is on the top right hand side. It is on sale for $6.38 and I think the shipping was 3.50. I know it all was under $10.00 and fast shipping.

I knew I shouldn't have looked but I just took a peek, which turned into staring at each photo of the quilt and studying each detail. That is a stunning quilt! Thank you for sharing where to buy the pattern. This would look perfect on my bed. :lol:

I just love Amish Country Lanes website too! I have saved a lot of their quilt pics to my computer to motivate me to learn more. They make a slideshow for me when I am not using the computer.

Anyway, I would think that the easiest way to make that would waste fabric, but again, it would be easy. I think making up Log Cabin squares and then overlapping them to form the star, marking where to cut away, and then appliquing it all together and onto a whole cloth piece with borders would be short and sweet.

You can always use the leftover pieces to make scrap quilts!

That is just my idea. I haven't seen the pattern, but I imagine it is much more complicated. :lol: :roll:

OHMYGOD!!! I went to the Amish sight to see the Spin Star quilt!!! :shock: I would be afraid to use it on the bed!! :lol:

I think I will be perfectly happy with my not so perfect quilts. They will keep my freinds and family just as warm and they won't have to be afraid to use them. :D

Looked on the sight Amish country Lanes Quilts and there is a new quilt posted. The big star is surrounded by small logcabin squares. I get it now. Also the previous pictures showed one was bordered by small squares. I looked really close and all they are is I think they call it the card shuffle block. If we keep dissecting this quilt we will all get it sooner or later. Thanks to all who replied.
