How sad that some people are so judgmental of others. I see beauty in all quilts although there are those that I like much better than others. In my opinion, there is no perfect quilt and if you look long enough, you can always find a mistake even in those that win high honors. I say we should just give our quilt the best we have to give, be proud of our accomplishment and overlook the ignorance of those that make rude comments.

I am the same way Gannyrosie....the only judges that see my quilts are the people I make them for and no one has ever "rejected" a single one. smile....

A couple of years ago I visited a quilt show put on by a guild. I do not believe the show was juried. There was one quilt that made me a bit sad. I bet some people made were very critical of it or made fun of it. The pen used for the marking did not wash out The maker had worked very hard hand quilting it. Obviously the quiltmaker knew the marks where there. Obviously the people hanging the quilts knew the marks were there. I suspect the maker cried when the marks didn't come out but it was hung up for display anyway. I spent my time looking at the wonderful work and love that was put in the quilt instead of focusing on the problems.

I wonder if the harshness of ladies like you describe turns others away? I can't imagine that such a critic being justified. Would their own quilts make the cut?

I knew one lady who *hired* her quilting done and still entered her quilts in shows as her own work. She was one of the harshest critics I ever knew, but I just considered her skewed sense of right and wrong and let it roll off me like water off a duck's back.

Is it the AMISH community that deliberately uses a rogue block? I think there is some superstition that makes that a purposeful thing.
