Unhappy Squaring Up a Wonky Quilt Block?

Hey everybody,

I'm starting an Irish Chain quilt for my nephew made of John Deere Fabric and solid yellow fabric. I have the blocks all sewn up and they are supposed to be 12.5 inches square, BUT after I measured them they are less than that. I think I could square them to be 11 3/4 blocks but I'm not sure how to do that. Could anyone guide me on this? This is only my second quilt, my first being a crazy quilt so I wasn't so worried about the blocks being exact.

These Youtube videos by Sharon Schamber may be of help:

Because it's an Irish Chain, you may be able to get away with 11-3/4" blocks if they all fit together.

If they are all within an 1/8' inch or less of each other, why not use them as is? Your seam allowance is you own "personal private measurement" and should be the same through, probably, all your blocks. Your finished quilt may not be the predetermined desired size, but it will be YOUR size.

Thanks everybody. I just went ahead and resized them to 11 3/4".

No, I wouldn't have been able to do that because some of them were smaller than 12". Something definitely went wrong somewhere, lol. Guess I still have more to learn.

I have done this more than once. I am doing now I refuse to look to closely at for that exact reason. If I ever do a harder quilt I think I will have serious trouble because I am not careful with my measurements. Sometimes I wish I was more of a perfectionist, it would help me in my quilting.
