Default How to create this border

People on this board are so great at figuering things out, that I thought maybe you can help me this time. I love the jagged border on this quilt with the eagle (on page 18). I love how random it is.

I have this book, but there is no more detail about the quilt than what you see here. I guess it is some kind of crazy patch block just being carful of the color placement. But I am not good at random piecing. Does anyone have an idea of how to accomplish this look with a more "structured" block? Or any ideas?

It appears to me that it is a randomly slashed method - stack and whack maybe? Haven't investigated stack n whack so can't tell you for sure.
And the appeal is partly due to its total randomness.
I know, hard for us matchy-matchy control freaks to bring ourselves to do!

It looks like the all white crazy patch block from the center were repeated with some blue to create the edge. Looks for a pieced crazy patch block maybe at www.quilterscache/quilt blocks galore.

The jagged edge doesn't seem to follow any pattern. But it does look like that part is created separately. The blue in the jagged edge doesn't quite match the pattern of the blue in the outer border. So, I would also say crazy patch pieced. You could paper piece it.
