I've used it also, if my quilting is going to be a little spread out I've put it on both sides for added strength. I don't know if I need to but I do.

I haven't tried it, but I think I have some. I just overlap two pieces of batting by an inch or so and quilt, but I have a LA. Stitching or tape might make more of a difference on a DSM.

I also just butt the edges together and sew with a large zig zag stitch - works great.
