Quilting Nonnie

I am trying Quilt As You Go for the first time and was following a method where you baste your sandwich together with basting spray.

I thought I had the ideal solution to how to do it indoors. It had been raining for 2 weeks straight and so I had to do it indoors. (The garage is totally under siege by my DH's project car).

I use a chest of drawers for my cutting ironing surface (it is 4 feet long and the perfect height for my tallness!). I took a sheet and covered the top surface then continued up the wall and pinned the sheet to the curtains. My work surface is below the window. Then I took other sheets and blocked off the sides so there wouldn't be any stickiness on my cuckoo clock, lamp or iron.

So I sprayed and basted. But wow! Now my whole room is sticky...even behind where I was standing! My machine and extension table, my computer keyboard and monitor, my books....ARGHHHH!

Who has the solution to this gigantic overspray?? I was using Sullivan's Original Basting Spray (pink can).

Did you have a ceiling fan or other fan going? I made that mistake one time. Started spraying without thinking about the fan because it is always on. Seemed like the spray was everywhere. Also, found it is best to use as light a coat as you can get away with.

Try using a box to put your pcs. in to spray. It would contain the overspray.

I have never had that problem and I always use basting spray, indoors, but I do use just the 505 brand, maybe that's the prob :?:

Sullivan's is the absolute worst brand for over spray and smell, in my opinion. It forms a huge cloud that goes everywhere. I won't use it any more.

Try a different brand. I don't have the over spray problems with June Taylor or 505.

I use the 505 and a sheet. I haven't had any problems and I spray on my kitchen island :(

I have the sullivans... and yes it does over take everything!! I have a exlarge " gift bag" that I spray into.. usually holding the item with a pair of twwezers or hemostats.. ... I'm still trying to get it off the tweezers and hemistats... I've used soap & water, acidtone, goo be gone.... and I dont knwo what else.. that stuff aint comeing off.... no wonder ppl say it gums up their needles so bad!!! I hate the stuff...

You could try Goo Gone. It comes in a pump spray bottle and smells wonderfully of oranges. It should take it right off. If that doesn't work, and you have no personal objections, go to a liquor store and by a jar/bottle of Grain alcohol. It is like Mikey; it will clean anything. Don't use it on varnished surfaces and test on plastics first!
