The medium green and then some of the deep rich purple. Great job by the way. It looks wonderful.

Beautiful first quilt. Mine didn't look anything like that, but I still love it. "smile"

Beautiful. If it were mine I would use the cream/off white for a border.

All really good recommendations given. It's really personal preference at this point. However, not sure what your backing is so you may want to consider just using the same fabric for a border and bind it in contrasting color. Great job for a first quilt. Very impressive..

Oooo, did y'all notice those pretty miters on the sashing around the blocks? Very nice job!

Thank you for all your lovely compliments. To answer the questions, the backing fabric is a tonal off white and it is a QAYG quilt. My teacher likes that method for beginners because you don’t get bored by doing all the quilting at the end. My teacher had suggested a fabric to frame it and then a pieced border but I was overwhelmed by choices and don’t have a class for a while so that’s why I came asking for help.

I usually add my borders before I sandwich the quilt. If you add a border now, you may have to piece your batting and back to fit. But I think it looks great as is - love the way you did the sashing! Just add a binding and you can move on to a new project. Nice hand quilting, too!

Your quilt is absolutely beautiful and so nicely done in every way. There are lots of choices for finishes and it comes down to personal opinion. If you choose to go ahead with a border you might consider the print that is used in the blocks and bind with the fabric that is used for the frames in the blocks. I also think others have made great suggestions for you to consider. Please show us your quilt again after you decide. I think you have a great quilting future because you have had a great beginning.

Are you sure this is your !st quilt???? It's just beautiful! Love your color choices also. As for the border, I'm like you, I like borders. I'd go with Tartan's suggestion of a floral fabric with those colors, then bind in green or purple (my preference, just in case you're asking).

I personally don't think what fabric you used for the "back" would in any way determine your binding, I also think, unless you are doing a 'quilt as you go' technique, adding a border now that you have quilted the top, might be a bit tricky...adding batting and backing along with border.....so in my mind I works bind it in the dark burgundy and that will act as a frame for your beautiful 'first quilt'. Congrats!
