Default babylock serger

does anyone have one of these, I'm thinking about buying one for $399.00. I have a White that is 15 years old, and won't stay threaded.

when you say 'won't stay threaded'... is it breaking or coming undone from the needle too easily? if it is a coming undone needle problem, finish each seam with a scrap of fabric, sew off your project and onto the scrap... when doing your next seam, sew off the scrap and onto the project clipping the scrap off later.

if it is a breaking problem, try this, thread #3 first, #4 second, #5 third, and put all those threads thru the foot now. THEN thread each needle and put them thru the foot one by one. now sew onto a scrap while holding all the threads with your left hand. Just ignore threads 4 and 5 if you do not have them, the order should still be followed.

I have taught serger classes and almost ALL sergers thread best in this order, no matter what brand. White is an excellent brand and there is no reason why it should not work for you. Threading problems are the number one reason for serger frustration.

Once everything is threaded with colors that match the dial codes, sew for a bit and then check the appearance of the seam. the different colors will show you which thread needs adjustment. next time you need to change colors, clip each at the cone, replace new cones, tie old dangling threads onto the new cones. sew (do not pull) onto a scrap...watching the needle thread grooves. when the needle thread knots appear at the front, stop sewing. clip each of these two needle thread knots and then thread thru needles and guides. all the other knots will go thru their holes without separate threading. this way you will not have to re-thread every time. please forgive if this is too much detail... lots of people know some or all of this but lots of people don't.

Now, having said all of that, I have a Babylock (and an Elna) serger and it works beautifully and it's 30 years old. If you want new serging possibilities, or one more threads, great....sew on them all at the stores. thread them all at the stores....same order here will work....and decide which you like best. if you like, try to fix the threading problem on the white and save for second machine (for friend or repair times)....or....put on ebay to help pay for the new one. good luck...

I have the Babylock Imagine and just love it.
It is the only Serger I,ve ever owned, so I can't comment on others but I can tell you
that the air threading is just great. I wouldn't give it up for anything.

I have the Babylock Imagine and it does everything like a dream. It is so easy to use that I have started sewing things that I hadn't sewn in decades, like items for my wardrobe and grandchildren's clothes. I paid about $1500 for it. The dealer told me that the cheaper sergers had problems. I had to use a layaway plan for this, but the self threading feature is easily worth the price for me. I feel like it does everything but cook supper.
