I have my ASG neighborhood group starting a paper pieced quilt with birds as the main theme. The blocks are finished 8" squares. We have twelve of the most popular backyard birds but living in Florida, we have a few "extras" not common to other states.

I'm looking for an owl and an eagle pattern. I can print to my size if needed and they can't be too detailed. Some of these gals are just learning.

If you happen to know of a Sandhill Crane pattern, you will be my friend for life. Yes, I have them in my yard two or three times a week. They are lovely, majestic birds and very tame. They and my dogs are so used to each other now that the dogs don't even bark and the cranes go happily feeding on often no more than ten feet apart. I've gotten within five feet to take pics.

I can't help with patterns but those sandhill cranes are lovely to look at but murder on the golf course digging everywhere. They also get hit with golf balls. Many times we have to move them with the golf cart before we can play!
They seem to mostly have twins and I love to watch the babies grow up. It's heartbreaking when they only show up with one.

If you could find any crane pattern you could modify the pattern with color or maybe a great blue heron pattern you could modify.

Not much help. Sorry.

Thanks a bunch for your help. The coloring book pics are great but alas, I don't know how to make them into paper pieced patterns.

I googled for the owl and sandhill crane applique patterns. Got lots of sites. Here are 2 examples. Try googling and see if you can find what you want.
An owl pattern with free download:

Interesting quilting site from the Florida Museum of Natural history:

Good luck.

Applique won't work girls. It has to be paper pieced.
