Your fabric selection is beautiful and whatever you do with it should be stunning. Let the fabric tell the store such as the 10" block RunninL8 mentioned with a a thin batting. It would be closest to the Pottery Barn picture and easier on you the quilt maker. Sounds like you've had your share of frustration without sewing a stitch so far.

Go with what you have selected -- those prints are similar in design to her picture and look lovely. She probably doesn't have enough experience to be opinionated at this point. However, she will definitely have an opinion when it is finished. Keep it simple to reduce the investment of time on your part. Whatever happens, you will have to be gracious about it, keeping in mind that the road ahead for your sister with this new person in the family may be a bumpy one and she will appreciate your support.

Don't be to hard on her, she probibly just doesn't speak your language..."blocks, pattern, Puffy, comforter or duvet style" eek...I know when I go to the hairdresser I take a picture of what I would like, my hairdresser appreciates it very much, I don't speak her language either! Be happy she gave you a great start on what she would like and dive in and go for it...you have chosen beautiful fabrics!!

Maybe by showing you this picture, she was trying to tell you that she wants large blocks. Spare yourself from a lot of extra work. Your fabrics are wonderful.

I love your fabric choice, and ten-inch blocks will showcase those beautiful prints.

I see them as excellent choices........and I am not the flowery type. My sister-in-law would love it. I made her and BIL a "5 yard quilt" for anniversary, although that only fit's a full size and she has queen with extra to go over pillows and hang down more on edges. So it became my 8 yard quilt. Very easy pattern and those fabrics would be perfect. I will will do a search and send to you.

I would keep it fairly simple and choose more of a "modern" pattern not traditional. I think there is a line called "City Blocks"? or something like that. It has patterns using big 'blocks'. Alot of "younger" generation perfer not to have the "old fashion" look to quilts! Not me! I love tradition! like the new stuff too though!

do what you would enjoy working with, keep the piecing simple, showcase your fabrics and the quilting and you ought to be okay. Keep it mind, it is also for your nephew so make it something he will enjoy. My son in law as constantly surprised me over the years by letting me know how much he appreciates me and the gifts of love etc i bring to his life. i'm betting your nephew feels the same way about you.
