I have a question to ask about backing material. My queen size quilt asks for 9 1/4 yds for the backing. Now some of the fabric sites you can order backing fabric is this different or is it 9 1/4 yards of backing material. Thank you in advance for your help

Same thing, however, I would say the 9 1/4 yds called for is with the assumption that it is 45 inch material. Sometimes when backing material is advertised it is wider than that. You didn't mention the cost so I don't know if it is the wider backing. If it is you sure don't need 9 1/4 yds so you need to check that out.

The 9+ yds refers to 45" fabric which is cut into 3 pieces and sewn to make it wide and long enough for your quilt. If you order fabric that states it is backing it is usually wide enough for your quilt and you only need buy one length. The site will state what the width of the fabric is--anywhere from 90" to 110" usually. Hope this helps.

No it is referring to regular 44 inch fabric, Backing fabric is 108 inches when you don't want to piece your backing. most backing fabric is limited to certain colors so its a personal preference how you want to back your quilt

As noted previously, the 9 1/4 yards is 45" fabric is pieced to fit your quilt. If you buy specific backing material (90-110" wide), then you would need 3 yards and the back would all be one piece. Connecting threads has some dreamy backing fabric, Joann's carries about 10 fabrics in the wide widths for quilt backing, and some LQS either have it, or can order if. Any way you go depends on what look you want, or what you can afford.

if wide backing is available, you might find it less expensive to buy wide rather than the 45". For instance. If 45" is $8.00 per yd and you need 9.5 yds - that is 76$
3 yds of wide backing at $13.00 is 36.00

I love the wide backing. It saves you from having to piece...
