how about finding a cable knitting pattern- and trace it onto paper- then adapt it to fit your border? i use alot of Kaffe Facets (sp) knitting patterns for quilting designs- you can scan , enlarge & print them == sometimes we have to (think out side the box)

I often come back to crosshatching. It always looks good.

You could always try www.creativegrids.com they sell patchwork equipment and have a super mail order service.

I'm in your boat and live in Germany. I'm hand quilting something right now and wanted the same thing...heres what i did. I hate tracing things onto my quilts...no patience on my part....I do better to eyeball..by all means tho tracing will work. I have a bin of old quilting magazines and if you look thru them there are tons of patterns of quilting in there. I used the pictures as a guide and there are tons of cables, especially on the adds in the mags for selling templates and papers and such. Just an idea or option. You can also do a search and print out a pattern.

They are trying to sell templates but by looking and watching there video you could make your own from cardboard and do it this way!
    Hope that helps!!
