help with a pattern?

A friend of mine would like a wedding or "romantic" quilt.
I've seen the double ring design and don't think I could do that (I've never paper pieced).
Also the wedding knot; that's a possibility if I can find good instructions.
I've been looking online for several hours now with not much luck.
I don't mind appliqué or even a scrappy (I know she'll want to keep cost down).
Keep in mind that I have NEVER ended up with the quilt I started to make. They always seem to morph into something else but they always turn out OK but different.

Lover's Knot? Dresden Plate in romantic colors? Once you get past the name, the circular shape is a symbol of enduring love. I've seen one made with rounded ends on the blades in a book at the library. It was definitely romantic looking.

Does she have any ideas of what she likes? If not how about the two of you look through the patterns on quiltercache for ideas. Have her pick out several patterns for you to choose from depending you how comfortable you feel doing them. Good luck.

Why not make her do the work and show you at least 10 or 15 designs she likes. She can go to google images or pinterest and find a wealth of quilts that appeal to her. From those, you can get an idea of what she means by a "romantic" quilt. It sounds like you already are adept at adapting a pattern to suit your needs-- so look at the commonalities among the quilts she likes, and you can come up with a pattern that is in your skill set but incorporates the elements she likes.

Suggestion: I think the pattern is called "nosegays". It is a pieced floral bouquet that can be made scrappy. Here is an example (I think):

I was going to suggest the Lover's knot. Eleanor Burns book has the pattern is widely available. It only takes a few fabrics and is quick to piece. But looking at quilter's cache is also a great suggestion.

I would definately involve her deeply in the pattern choice, and also the fabric choice. I.E., my definition of "romantic" doesn't come close to my best friend's definition of "romantic," so I would never presume to try and surprise her with such based on my opinions. You want to be sure she loves it :)
