My first question is: Does your future DIL also like zombies?

I would think you'd have to make the zombie print be pretty small so the wife can accept having zombies on her bed. LOL. How about a log cabin? Lots of prints can be combined in lights and darks and look great and the zombies can still be seen but not stand out.

What about doing his and her lap quilts. You can use the same pattern for each one but vary the fabrics.

I'm thinking you could use any block you wanted and just use the zombies for a sashing, but keep it on the narrow side.

Bonnie Hunter from www.quiltville.com says there are no ugly fabrics, you just haven't cut them small enough. If you are buying expensive zombie fabric though, I am not sure I would want to cut it into ittty bitty pieces.

A king-size zombie quilt might be a bit much. Perhaps doing the his and her lap quilts with fabric themes each one likes is a good way to go -- warm wishes pattern would be fun and quick. Or, if you really want/need to focus on the king size quilt now, perhaps do it in another theme and hold the zombie fabric for lap quilts later. If you want to use the zombies in the big quilt, log cabin with a lot of other prints might be the way to go.

You could make a bed quilt that they would both enjoy then make a lap quilt with zombies
for your son later.

I agree ... keep the zombies off *her* bed. Unless of course you know that she likes them too. Perhaps a King size quilt for "them" and a small lap or car quilt with the zombies as big and bold as you like for him.

Oh dear, if you haven't checked with the future DIL this could be the start of a very poor relationship. On the other hand, she apparently likes your son, and he likes zombies, so maybe it's transitive. I wouldn't count on it though. Lap quilts sounds like a great way to go.
