This is for anyone with information, might be a long arm quilter and might not be. I am just asking here since there is such a wealth of information in this site. I am fairly new to long arm quilting and I get a small loop on the topside every once in a while. Not a lot, almost like one little stitch isn't tight like the rest. I have checked everywhere for dirt, nothing. I have not messed with the tension much as it doesn't occur very often. Maybe about 6 times on a whole big quilt. I would love any suggestions that you might have as I am getting frustrated by this. Thanks so much.

I don't have a long arm yet so I don't know their quirks or if they are different from a domestic - but just from experience with my home sewing machine - could it be the needle? Needle thread combination? Have you played with different needle sizes and threads to see if you still have this problem?

I am a LA'r...and I've had this problem too...but I can't tell you how I fixed it! I changed needles, threads, bobbin threads, etc. and eventually it "fixed itself...". Maybe you could call your dealer or the manufacturer and get some inside info? Good luck!

I had this happen when I was a beginner. Not sure if this is what fixed it, but I wadded up a small piece of batting and placed it in the arm where the thread passes first right off the cone to keep the thead from flapping around. That seemed to solve it. The thread is traveling at such a high speed, it can get a loop in it, I guess. Try it, it might work. Maybe speed up just a little too and make sure our tension disc is cleaned out of any lint. It is mostly trial and error with these longarms.

Could it have happened when you went over a fat seam or was there a loose thread underneath?
